Abstract

The author considers systematically this monospecific genus and its relationships with its relatives, historizing the origin of its current synonymy and the varieties it comprises. This tree that lives in Brazil and Paraguay is known especially by the name of "mangabeira" and is important as a secondary source of elastic rubber.

Joseph Monachino, New York Botanical Garden

Joseph Vincent Monachino (1911 - 1962 ) fue un botánico estadounidense nacido en Sicilia.

Entre 1941 y 1948 trabajó también para la empresa Merck & Co. de Rahway (Nueva Jersey).
