Current knowledge of tropical lichens in Mexico remains comparatively limited compared to that of temperate and subtropical regions. In this study, herbarium specimens of the genera Dirinaria and Pyxine (Ascomycota, Caliceaceae) stored at the XALU Herbarium were critically examined to update their distribution in the state of Veracruz (Mexico) and to provide diagnostic tools for their identification. The analysis included detailed assessment of morphological characters using stereomicroscopy, together with standard chemical spot tests (K, C, KC) and ultraviolet (UV) fluorescence reactions. Three species are reported here as new state records: Dirinaria leopoldii, D. papillulifera, and Pyxine subcinerea, thereby expanding the known distribution of these taxa in Southeastern Mexico. Diagnostic features and distributional data are provided for each species. An updated taxonomic key to the species of both genera occurring in Veracruz is presented, based on cortical UV reactions, medullary pigmentation and coloration, and the presence of vegetative propagules. These findings contribute to the systematic knowledge of Caliciaceae in tropical regions of Mexico and underscore the importance of herbarium-based taxonomic revisions for documenting regional lichen diversity.
