Abstract

Osbeckia ulotricha (Melastomataceae), a new species from Agasthyamala Biosphere Reserve, is described and illustrated. The new species exhibits some morphological similarities to Osbeckia yercaudensis Sarav. & Kaliam., but can be distinguished by the subglobose hypanthium, true bristles on the crown, style with ascending trichomes, and protruding capsule. Micro-morphological characters of the pollen and seeds of the new species are also provided.
