A study in the Celastraceae: Siphonodonoideae subf. nov.
Keywords:
Celastraceae, Siphonodonoideae, Siphonodon, anatomy, taxonomyAbstract
The author discusses the position of the genus Siphonodon of the Celastraceae in systematic botany, and concludes that this genus is the type of a subfamily new to science, the Siphonodonoideae. Having analyzed the studies of several authors, and based on the structure of the ovary and the flower of several plants, he establishes that the genus Siphonodon differs from the typical Celastraceae because the fertile carpels, located in the latter in the center of the flower, are located on the contrary in Siphonodon on the periphery of a central sterile tissue. He includes in his study some critical notes on carpels and the nature of the style.
