In the subgenus Tephrocactus of the genus Opuntia (Cactaceae), the author changes the hierarchical rank of the four Britton and Rose series: Weberianae, Floccosae, Glomeratae and Pentlandiae, as well as many other sections, and founds a new one which he calls Punae, to which O. subterranea Fries and O. ruiz-lealii Castell belong. n. sp. described in this work.
