Abstract

Betacyanins were detected in six species of four Centrospermal families. The analysis of concentrated extracts from fruits of Phytolacca bogotensis seemed particularly interesting. Besides the characteristic betacyanin spots, others which also were reddish-pink, although much weaker, were detected in areas not typical of the former. Such properties as a low Rf in 0.1 M formic acid and their electrophoretic behavior ?they run as cations? seem to fit anthocyanins better than betacyanins.
