Abstract

Natural hemolytic activity of Waglerophis merremi (Wagler) (Reptilia, Colubridae)?. The natural hemolitic activity present in sera and eggs of Waglerophis merremi was studied. The results showed that this activity depends on an alternative pathway of complement's activation. The high activity in eggs and young animals suggest a defense transmition from mother to offspring. This mecanism is considered as an original form of natural non specific passive inmunity not previously reported.
