Abstract

The Orange-breasted Falcon (Falco deiroleucus) is a rare Neotropical raptor with a broad distribution from Mexico to Argentina. However, its identification is challenging due to its similarity to other species, such as Falco rufigularis. In May 2024, three individuals were recorded in the Parque Nacional y Área Natural de Manejo Integrado Serranías del Aguaragüe in Tarija in Tarija, Bolivia, during the IV National Census of the Green Macaw. Identification was confirmed through vocalization recordings and photographs, highlighting morphological features such as the size and thickness of the tarsi and toes, and the robust structure of the head. This record, located 300 km north of the nearest report in Jujuy, Argentina, represents the first documented occurrence of the species in the department of Tarija, suggesting that the region may be a suitable distribution site.
