Abstract

Bulacio, Eva; Graciela Ponessa. 2012. “Morphology and anatomy of vegetative organs of Tropaeolum tuberosum ssp. silvestre (Tropaeolaceae)”. Lilloa 49 (1). Tropaeolum tuberosum Ruiz et Pav. ssp. silvestre Sparre is distributed from Ecuador to northern Argentina, mainly along the Andes. The presence or absence of tubers in this subspecies is controversial, because those were observed only in species under cultivation. The aim of this work was to perform a morpho-anatomical description of the vegetative organs of this subspecies. We worked with fresh material, conventional techniques were performed and observations by optical and scanning microscope were done. The leaf is dorsiventral, hypostomatic with anomocytic stomata and venation is actinodrome. The aerial stem is circular and the vascular bundle is an ectophloematic euestele; rhizome with cortical parenchyma and pith parenchyma cells mature loosely arranged. The fasciculate roots are diarch and present an endogenous origin from the rizome. The mentioned feature in this study represents an important contribution to the moment of characterizing the subspecies.
