Nesting and biometrical analysis of Tinamous' eggs from Tucuman province (Argentina)?. This work is a study of the nidification and biometry of eggs of Tinamous from the province of Tucumán (Argentina). The oological material used in the analysis belongs to the Miguel Lillo Foundation.
We studied the nidification of 9 species of Tinamous: Crypturellus t. tataupa, Rhynchotus rufescens maculicollis, Nothura ornata rostrata, Nothura c. cinerascens, Nothura p. pentlandii, Nothura darwinii salvadorii, Eudromia elegans intermedia, Eudromia elegans magnistriata and Eudromia f. formosa. We measured the long and wide, and then calculated LA (long x wide) / mm2 of the eggs from these species.
We concluded that LA measure is the best to describe the eggs from the analized species. By means of an analysis of variance to LA and multiple comparisons, we decided finally that it is posible to distinguish between the genus Nothura and Crypturellus and among their species, using the measurements of their eggs.
