Abstract

Interactions between birds and social wasps have been reported in Neotropical regions, however, the frequency and promoting factors of this interaction are not yet fully understood, but have been justified by a supposed benefit for birds against their predators provided by social wasps. There are few records of birds of the Furnariidae family associating social wasps, therefore, this study reports the unprecedented interaction between the bird Certhiaxis cinnamomeus and the social wasp Polybia scutellaris in the Atlantic Forest and Cerrado ecotone, southeastern Brazil, recorded in 2022, in addition to bringing a compilation of data on this interaction, apparently it does not occur occasionally and in isolation, probably involving other species of social wasps, which is why more studies are suggested for a better understanding of the factors that promote it.
