Considerations on reproduction in birds
Keywords:
Birds, reproductionAbstract
The authors deal with the reproductive habits of birds, illustrated with Argentine species, when it is possible, and with birds of other countries, selecting their examples from books of a general character and of easy access to the reading public. The habits studied are: copulation, laying and incubation. In the case of copulation, monogamy, polygamy and promiscousness are considered. In the case of laying, the effect of a change from one hemisphere to another on the data of laying and the shortness or length of the laying period; lastly, under the heading of incubation, possible variation relating to laying, parental participation of the sexes in nest sitting and different types of incubation, solitary or collective are studied.
