Abstract

This monophagous species is found on Schinus molle in areas of the Quebrada de Humahuaca (Jujuy). For the recognition, on the different,, larvae instars a dilematic key was prepared. A clear relationship between larval fecal pellets and head capsules was found (Dyar’s law).
The high reproductive capacity, adaptation to the physical environment (hibernal diapause, spring birth, nocturnal greater activity) and biotic factors (low predation and parasitism) may explain the efficiency of this species as a pest insect.
