?Discovery of Scomber japonicus peruanus (Jordan and Hubbs, 1925) (Teleostomi, Scombridae) off the coast of Valdivia, Chile?
Six specimens of Scomber japonicus peruanus (Jordan and Hubbs, 1925) were found of Curiñaneo (39°41?S; 73°22?W), Chile. This is the new southernmost limit to the distribution of the species on the chilean coast (500 km further south of Valparaíso). On the basis of the presence of this species and the clasmobranchs Myliobatis chilensis and Galeorhinus zyopterus in the zone around 40°S a discussion is presented concerning the periodic heating of the water mass, which allows the extention of warmer-water species into these cool waters.
