Descubriendo la diversidad oculta: Una nueva especie de Liolaemus (Squamata: Liolaemidae) de las tierras altas del Perú

Resumen

La diversidad de Liolaemus es asombrosa, y continuamente se describen nuevas especies en la región austral de Sudamérica. En Perú, durante los últimos siete años se han descrito doce especies de Liolaemus, casi todas pertenecientes al grupo de Liolaemus montanus. Varias de estas especies habitan la costa sur del Pacífico, mientras que otras se encuentran en sistemas montañosos que se extienden por las regiones central y meridional del país. En este estudio describimos una nueva especie de lagartija del grupo de L. montanus, previamente referida como L. aff. forsteri, sobre la base de evidencia molecular y morfológica. La nueva especie es única y puede distinguirse de sus congéneres mediante una combinación de caracteres morfológicos, particularmente por su patrón de coloración y escamación. Habita zonas montañosas del Departamento de Puno y está molecularmente relacionada con especies peruanas pertenecientes a los clados de L. forsteri y L. huacahuasicus.
