Descripción de una nueva especie para el género Macaria (Lepidoptera: Geometridae) y reporte de su planta hospedera en la Argentina

Resumen

En Argentina la diversidad real de la familia Geometridae está muy subestimada como consecuencia de muestreos insuficientes y estudios fragmentados. Dentro de géneros muy diversos como Macaria (Curtis, 1832), que incluye alrededor de 330 especies y subespecies con patrones de coloración similares, subyace la existencia potencial de especies desconocidas. Se describe e ilustra una nueva especie para el género Macaria en Argentina, en base a ejemplares colectados en la ciudad de Garupá, Misiones. La morfología genital del macho y el patrón de coloración alar de Macaria garupa sp. nov. acercan a esta especie a Macaria rigidata Guenée, [1858], pero los caracteres diagnósticos de la nueva especie permiten separarlas fácilmente. Los estados inmaduros de M. garupa están asociados a Duranta erecta L (1758) (Verbenaceae). La importancia de este trabajo radica en la descripción de una nueva especie perteneciente a un género poco estudiado en la región, caracterización de su historia natural y determinación de su nivel de sinantropía.
