Palynological record of the Upper Paleozoic sediments in the Sierra de Paiman, La Rioja, Argentina?. A palynologic assemblage recovered from a lacustrine sequence at the Sierra de Paiman (La Rioja), eastern flank of the Sierra de Famatina is documented. The miospores are found in the Agua Colorada Formation of the Late Carboniferous age. The assemblage is dominated by trilete spores (Granulatisporites varigranifer, Raistrickia rotunda, Densosporites stellatus, Jayantisporites paseudozonatus, Spinozonotriletes hirsutus, are he most conspicuous elements); the monosaccate pollen grains are less common (Cannanoropollis korbaensis, Plicatipollenites malabarensis, Potonieisporites novicus, are the most abundant species). Palynological data suggest a Westfalian age and humid paleoecological conditions.
