Abstract

Knowledge of Panama’s bryophyte flora remains fragmented, particularly in lowland areas and in western region of the country. To contribute to the floristic knowledge of these ecosystems, sampling were carried out between February and June 2025 in pastures and secondary forests near the Chorcha Waterfall, in the Chorcha Plateau, Chiriquí Province. A total of 13 species were identified, of which four represent new bryophyte records for Panama, including three liverworts (Archilejeunea ludoviciana subsp. porelloides, Cheilolejeunea fragrantissima, Lejeunea setiloba) and one moss (Fissidens curvatus), while the remaining nine species constitute new records for Chiriquí Province. These findings expand the floristic knowledge of the region, highlight information gaps in lowland ecosystems, and emphasize the importance of these habitats for the conservation of bryophyte diversity in Panama.
