Scientific and Historical Patrimony of Miguel Ignacio Lillo: the Exotic Plants Herbarium

A lot is known about the dedication the naturalist Miguel Lillo put into botany. An
example of this commitment is reflected in the number collections available in the
Phanerogamic Herbarium (LIL-HbF) of Fundación Miguel Lillo in the province of Tucumán, Argentina. Among these collections, there is one that is Special due to it constitutes, a scientific heritage preserved by the institution and is identified as the “Exotic Plants Herbarium”. The objectives of the present work were to reveal the
taxa included therein, update the scientific names, digitize the samples and make
known relevant information of this historical collection. The samples identified by Miguel Lillo the Wise, correspond to 70 species of vascular plants collected during
his stays in Chile and/or Europe. This botanical collection is a valuable legacy because of the extensive record of plant diversity.
