Abstract

?Geology and structure of the northern area of Andalgala, province of Catamarca?. Stratigraphic units, the earliest of which is the Suncho Formation with fossiliferous contents pointing to a lower Cambrian age, are described. The slates of the Buey Muerto Formation thereafter metamorphosed and intruded with granitic bodies, from the Batholith of the Aconquija-Capillita. These are considered apotectonic, dating from the upper-middle Paleozoic age. The continental deposits from the Miocene begin with the El Morterito Formation, on which the volcanic complex Farallón Negro overlies. The main structural lines in the Tertiary orogeny are defined, according to two fault systems bearing NE-SW and NNW-SSE, with a very particular blocks pattern.
