Abstract

An ichnological analysis of the Yacoraite Formation (Maastrichtian-Danian) in the south environs of Maimará locality, Eastern Cordillera of Jujuy Province, Argentina, allowed us to identify highly bioturbated limestone s containing Skolithos, Arenicolites, Diplocraterion and Thalassinoides, which make possible the characterization of the archetypal Skolithos ichnofacies. This ichnocenosis indicates high energy conditions, being probably the salinity, characteristic of a mixed environment, the main control of the low diversity observed.
