In the centre of the Buenos Aires province, the Tapalqué Creek is the main watercourse of its namesake catchment and exhibits effluent behaviour, receiving water discharge from the Pampeano aquifer. Agricultural, livestock, industrial, and recreational activities, combined with the discharge of effluents from sewage treatment plants (STP), treated leachate from municipal sanitary landfills (MSL), and undeclared liquid discharges through a tributary channel, negatively affect its physicochemical and microbiological composition. The proposed objective is to comprehensively evaluate its water quality, considering its potential applications and emphasizing recreational use with direct contact. The work continues the monitoring planned in the “Tapalqué Creek Water Quality Observatory Project” (Agreement between FIO and the Olavarría Municipal Government). Physicochemical, microbiological and Organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) analyses were conducted at different sampling sites along its course. Low dissolved oxygen values, high levels of NH4+ and NO2-, and anomalous concentrations of metals were measured. Its bacteriological quality revealed predominantly human-derived contamination. The detected levels of OCPs (mainly endosulfan) and the high values of NO3- found in rural areas could be attributed to the use of agrochemicals. Understanding and continuously assessing the water quality in the Tapalqué Creek is essential for taking effective management and conservation measures, thus contributing to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 and its targets.
