Geology and Petrology of the Payún-Matrú volcano

The Payún-Matrú volcano is situated 120 km southeast of Malargüe, Mendoza (Argentina), and its area extends between 36°12? and 36°30? S. lat. and 69°30? and 69°55? W long. Its summit is about 2.000 m above the basaltic plain which covers southeast Mendoza, and many parasitic basalt volcanoes are encountered on its eastern and western slopes.
