Abstract

As a result of some comparative profiles outcropping in the Argentine Northwestern, an essay of stratigraphic correlation among them is intended, by using a key bed which forms the lower levels of the Calehaquense formation of Tertiary age.

On the other hand, according to the author?s opinion, no similar correlation could be established between such scdiments and that corresponding to the Pirgua formation of Mesozoic age.

At the same time, the origin of manganese, iron and silice concretions, as well as the white quartz-bearing sandstones lenses, all of them present in the mentioned key bed, are discussed.
