Lilloa 48 (2). La variación en un rasgo evaluada a nivel intra-individual tendría implicancias ecológicas y evolutivas que raramente han sido consideradas en el estudio de interacciones planta-animal. En este trabajo se propone evaluar la importancia de la variación intra-individual en el tamaño y la forma del fruto en Psychotria carthagenensis, una especie productora de frutos carnosos dispersada por aves. Gran parte de la variación en los rasgos del fruto fue debida al nivel intra-individual (circularidad = 84,5 %, área = 70,1 %, diámetro =56,2 %). Las estimaciones de repetibilidad sugieren una mayor respuesta a la selección en el tamaño del fruto. No se detectaron relaciones significativas entre los caracteres con medidas repetidas dentro de una planta (incluyendo media, mediana, desvío estándar, varianza, coeficiente de variación, oblicuidad y kurtosis) y los caracteres con medidas únicas por planta (tamaño de la planta y número de frutos). Se promueve la consideración del nivel intra-individual de variación en futuros estudios, y se discuten sus implicancias ecológicas y evolutivas en las interacciones planta-dispersor.
